Meet Singapore MaRTy (SMaRTy): Biometeorological measurements in a tropical rainforest climate
This poster was presented at the 23rd International Congress of Biometeorology (ICB 2023) on May 14-17, 2023, in Tempe, Arizona, USA.
This study introduces a mobile biometeorological measurement platform, SMaRTy, designed to assess outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) determinants in downtown Singapore. Employing an ensemble of sensors, SMaRTy recorded micrometeorological factors such as air temperature, wind speed, humidity, and solar radiation at pedestrian level. Through field measurements conducted at various urban locations, this research highlights the significant impact of shade, sun angle, and surface material on mean radiant temperature (TMRT). The findings demonstrate the dynamic thermal environment pedestrians face in tropical climates. Future work will explore microclimatic variability across different urban morphologies to inform urban planning and public health strategies.
